Theoretical Examination of Electromag- Netic Wave Tunneling through Cascaded 2- and Μ-negative Metamaterial Slabs

چکیده
In this paper, we examine the close relationship that exists between the phenomenon of electromagnetic (EM) wave tunneling through stacks of single-negative metamaterial slabs and classical microwave filter theory. In particular, we examine the propagation of EM waves through a generalized multi-layer structure composed of N 2-negative layers separated from each other by N − 1 μnegative layers, where N ≥ 2 is a positive integer. We demonstrate that, if certain conditions are met, this multi-layer structure can act as a capacitively-coupled, coupled-resonator filter with an Nthorder bandpass response. Exploiting this relationship, we develop a generalized, analytical synthesis method that can be used to determine the physical parameters of this structure from its a priori known frequency response. We present several design examples in conjunction with numerical EM simulation results to demonstrate the validity of this analogy and examine the accuracy of the proposed synthesis procedure.

A New Circular Polarization Metamaterial Ferrite Phase Shifter
In this paper, a new X band Metamaterial (MTM) based ferrite phase shifter is presented. The phase shifter is excited by circular polarized wave base on combination of TE10 and TE01 modes in a square waveguide. In order to synthesize negative refractive index metamaterial (NIM), negative permeability of ferrite slabs in extraordinary mode is mixed with the negative permitivity of printed period...
متن کاملRefraction at the Interface of a Lossy Metamaterial
The refraction phenomenon at the interface of an ordinary material and a lossy metamaterial has been investigated. For oblique incidence on the lossy metamaterial, the planes of constant amplitude of the refracted wave are parallel to the interface and the plane of constant phases make a real angle with the interface (real refraction angle). The real refraction angle and hence, the real refract...
متن کاملGeneral Class of Metamaterial Transformation Slabs
In this paper, we apply transformation-based optics to the derivation of a general class of transparent metamaterial slabs. By means of analytical and numerical full-wave studies, we explore their imagedisplacement/ formation capabilities, and establish intriguing connections with configurations already known in the literature. Starting from these revisitations, we develop a number of nontrivia...
متن کاملThe Propagation and Cutoff Frequencies of the Rectangular Metallic Waveguide Par- Tially Filled with Metamaterial Multilayer Slabs
In this paper, the wave propagation and the cutoff frequencies of a rectangular metallic waveguide, partially filled the metamaterial multilayer slabs have been studied. The equations of the TMM method are not complex and the numerical examples show that we can easily obtain the characteristics of the metamaterial multilayer’s rectangular waveguide satisfyingly. The cutoff frequencies of the me...
متن کاملSurface Waves of Finite Size Electromag- Netic Band Gap Woodpile Structures
This paper studies the surface modes at the interface of finite size Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) woodpile structures. The impact of different types of woodpile terminations on the properties of these surface modes is analyzed. For all the studied terminations there exist surface modes which must be taken into account when designing components based on this EBG structure.
